Introducing the Bad Axe No. 9 Back Saw, a modern take on the coveted Disston No. 9, featuring the ergonomic 1874 Reagan patent handle and a distinctive ogee-curved exposed toe at the toothline. This saw marks the beginning of our revival of classic tools from the golden age of sawmaking.
Meticulously crafted, the Bad Axe No. 9 excels in tight spaces, such as cleaning mortises for dovetailed joints, boat-building, and other tasks where the sawback would be obstructive. The exposed toe allows you to make precise cuts in areas that a full-length sawback would hinder, including deepening tenon cheeks, cleaning large half-lap dovetails, and trimming kerf lines.
With 12 PPI and a Hybrid filing, this saw offers an ideal balance of rip and crosscut performance. The .025" thick plate provides stability and control, while the .032" kerf ensures clean, narrow cuts with minimal waste. A depth of cut up to 3 5/8 inches makes it a versatile tool for joinery, dadoes, rabbets, and more.
Whether you're working on detailed joinery or general cutting, the Bad Axe No. 9 delivers precision and reliability with every stroke.
